As the choir approaches the end of it's 5th year we took part in our first 'tour'.
The concert at St Michaels Chuch in Abertillery was in aid of 'Hospice of the Valleys' a charity supporting care for the severely ill in the local area. About £700 was raised for the charity.
Each half of the concert consisted of a set from each of the choirs and ended in a 'mass sing' with all the choirs together.
The Welsh men's choir is over a hundred years old compared with our 'baby staus' of only 5 years but our 'grown up' friends were very impressed with our progress as a choir and loved our sets. The second set prompted a standing ovation - something we've not experienced before. This is MD Steve Johnson's last public concert as he will be retiring and handing over his role to Carl Hodson in the autumn. Steve said 'The Choir were determined to give a great performance for this special concert and they delivered big time. What a show! Our Welsh friends had to acknowledge that even some of the English can sing!'
We adjourned to the pub after the concert and quickly started an informal singing session with our Welsh friends. A truly memorable weekend and great fun. Thanks to Sylvia, Diane, Noreen and all the members of the Committee who dealt with our end and to the Committees of the Welsh choirs who did such a great job looking after us and feeding us.
Ready to go to St Michael's after a super buffet meal
